Landscapers in Brisbane

Landscaping quotes are hard to line up because each one describes a slightly different garden. The same questions to every landscaper show where they part ways.

Questions to ask each business, with a column for each of three quotes
Ask each businessQuote AQuote BQuote C
BusinessIts name, and who you spoke to.
01Will you come and see the yard before quoting?Ask whether that visit is free, and whether a drawing comes with the quote.
02Which plants are in the price, and at what size?Ask for pot sizes by name, so two planting lists compare.
03Where will the water go when it rains hard?Ask whether drainage is part of the quote or left out of it.
04Does the quote include soil, mulch and edging?Ask for each to be named, with how much.
05Is any retaining wall in the job, and who arranges any approval it needs? If the answer is unclear, ask them to put it in writing.
06How will the garden be watered?Ask whether an irrigation system is quoted, and what it connects to.
07When would you start, and how long will it take?Ask what happens to the timeline if it rains.
08How are payments split across the job?Write down how much is asked up front, and when the rest falls due.
09Who takes away the green waste and spare soil? And whether that is in the price.
Ask each business the same questions and write the answers side by side. Printed, the sheet fills one page, with a column for each of three quotes. From landscapersbrisbane.com.au, a concept page.

What changes the price

Machinery access, the slope of the block, what has to be dug out and how many plants go in all move a landscaping quote. So does whether the plants are small and left to grow, or larger and finished-looking on the day.

Ask each landscaper to break the price into its parts, so you can see whether a gap comes from the plants, the walls or the labour.

Before work starts

Mark anything that has to stay, such as a tree, a tap or a clothesline, and show the landscaper where pipes and cables run if you know.

Ask what the new plants will need from you in the first few weeks, and whether the landscaper will come back to check on them.
